FAQ

our candles

What are your candles made of?

We use natural coconut soy wax sourced from our reputable Australian suppliers who follow strict industry standards.

Our candles contain no toxic additives, just wax, fragrance and a whole lot of love.

How long will they burn?

This will vary depending on how you maintain your candle and the environment in which you burn it. Our candles are designed to burn for 50+ hours if cared for properly. Please refer to our candle care tabs below.

Are your candles safe to burn around my pets?

Our candles are safe to burn around children and pets. Please ensure you keep them out of reach of a candle, especially when lit.

Why do you use a wooden wick?

It’s a personal preference! We love the crackle of a wooden wick. While a wooden wick requires more care than a standard cotton wick, it creates an unmatched vibe if cared for correctly.

How can I ensure I burn my candle safely?

Never leave a lit candle unattended or around children or pets unsupervised. Ensure adequate ventilation when burning a candle and avoid burning in a confined space.

Always burn on an even, heat-resistant surface. Keep away from drafts and never burn close to flammable objects such as curtains. Never burn for longer than 4 hours in a single session. Failure to follow these instructions could result in a fire hazard or damage.

Why is the flame so big?

To avoid a large flame, trim your wick before lighting your candle. Always ensure your wick is trimmed from 3 - 10mm. You can use a wick trimmer, scissors, and nail clippers to remove the excess burnt wick or use your fingers to remove it (not while lit).

Also, ensure your candle is away from heavy air flow or drafts; this will cause your candle to burn faster. If this and the steps above do not fix the issue, please get in touch with us at hello@waxhouse.com.au

Why is my candle tunneling?

Whenever you light a candle, you must let it burn to the edge of the jar before snuffing the flame, which usually takes 1 - 2 hours. Allowing the candle to burn to the edge will ensure it burns clean and evenly down.

During colder weather, your candle may reach the edge but not completely burn the wax against the wall of the jar. If this happens, don’t worry; if you allow it to burn to the edge on the next burn, the residual heat will melt the excess wax.

Follow the steps on our candle care page for more information.

How long should I burn my candle?

We recommend burning your candle for 2-3 hours and no longer than 4 hours.
